As per the 2010 Federal Census, Vermont is considered to be the 2nd least populous of the 50 United States. In 2010, the population of VT was 625,741 (approx), which was an increase of 2.8% from the Twenty-second (2000) US Census.

The first Vermont Federal Census was actually conducted in 1791 after it became a state and this may generate complications while carrying research with the 1790 census as an individual enumerated in the 1791 VT Census could have already been recorded in another state in 1790. The 1890 Federal Census Data were burned by the 1921 warehouse fire, but records related to Union Veterans and Widows of Veterans survived the fire. No state census records for Vermont till today is known.

Genealogy is one of the most important studies relating to ancestors. In US, it has gained much significance in the last few years. Millions of people have chosen census records to be the most effective source of information about family history.
